Büyükada Greek Orthodox Orphanage
Rising majestically above the pine forests of İsa Hill on Büyükada Island, the Büyükada Greek Orthodox Orphanage is the largest wooden building in Europe and the second largest in the world. Originally constructed in 1898 as a grand casino hotel, the sprawling 206-room timber complex served as a sanctuary for nearly six thousand orphans until its sudden closure in 1964. Decades of abandonment, decay, and tragic fire stories have shrouded this imposing wooden titan in chilling tales of phantom children and nocturnal cries across the island.
