Ruins of Anjar
Founded in the early 8th century by Caliph Walid I of the Umayyad dynasty, the ancient city of Anjar is a unique UNESCO World Heritage site located in the Beqaa Valley. Built as a fortified inland trading metropolis along silk routes, the city was mysteriously abandoned after only a few decades of flourishing existence. Today, travelers and local guardians report ghost soldiers marching along colonnaded avenues, floating lights among stone arches, and the phantom sound of clashing swords.
