Wukang Mansion
Wukang Mansion, formerly known as the Normandie Apartments, is an iconic French Concession landmark in Shanghai’s Xuhui District. Designed in 1924 by the famed Hungarian-Slovak architect László Hudec, the eight-story flatiron-style building resembles a massive ocean liner anchored at a five-way intersection. During the Cultural Revolution (1966–1976), the building earned the tragic nickname 'The Diving Board' due to dozens of persecuted intellectuals, artists, and celebrities jumping to their deaths from its upper balconies. Today, locals claim the spirits of those persecuted figures haunt its historic corridors.
