Sultan's Palace of Domoni
The Sultan's Palace of Domoni, nestled within the ancient stone medina of Domoni on Anjouan island, was the glittering royal seat of the sultans of Ndzuwani from the 16th to the 18th centuries. Featuring carved coral doorways, sprawling audience courtyards, and royal mausoleums, the palace grounds bore witness to royal intrigues, foreign trade treaties, and tragic succession struggles. Today, the majestic ruins are renowned for ghostly apparitions of royal courtiers, lingering sandalwood fragrances, and phantom music echoing through the empty halls.
