The New York State Capitol in Albany is a magnificent 19th-century granite masterpiece that served as the seat of state government since 1879. Built over a 32-year period at a staggering cost of over $25 million, this National Historic Landmark is globally celebrated for its imposing combination of Renaissance Revival and Romanesque Revival architecture, including the famous 'Million Dollar Staircase.' Beyond its political legacy, the Capitol is widely considered one of the most haunted government buildings in the United States. Its paranormal reputation stems from the tragic 1911 Capitol fire, which claimed the life of night watchman Samuel Abbott, as well as lingering spirits of historic statesmen and mysterious stone carvings.
