Hvítárvellir Farmstead
Hvítárvellir is a historic estate and ancient river ford along the glacial Hvítá river in the Borgarfjörður region of Western Iceland, famous in national folklore as the home of 'Hvítárvallamóri' (Móri of Hvítárvellir). Móri was an infamous 18th-century malevolent specter who stalked the farmstead and its family line for generations, causing phantom wagon crashes, scaring farm horses, knocking violently on windows during blizzards, and terrorizing travelers attempting to ford the glacial river. Today, the atmospheric riverbanks remain a celebrated dark folklore site.
