    The Amstel House

    New CastleUnited Statesc. 1738

The Amstel House is a magnificent early 18th-century brick mansion located in the historic heart of New Castle, Delaware. Built around 1738 by Dr. John Finney, it served as a grand residence for prominent Delaware statesmen, including Governor Nicholas Van Dyke, who famously hosted George Washington at the wedding of his daughter in 1784. Aside from its rich political and architectural history, the house is renowned as one of Delaware's most famous haunted historic homes, haunted by the spirit of a mysterious 'Woman in Black' and playful spirits on its upper floors.
