Iron Palace (Palácio de Ferro)
The Iron Palace (Palácio de Ferro) in downtown Luanda is a striking late 19th-century prefabricated cast-iron landmark believed to have been designed by Gustave Eiffel or his Paris workshop. Shipped from France in the 1890s, the building's origin remains shrouded in mystery, with popular accounts claiming the ship carrying it drifted off course and ran aground along the Angolan coast. Now fully restored as a cultural center, the metallic structure is famous for phantom metallic clanging, footsteps on iron staircases, and ghost sightings.
