Beqa Island, situated south of Navua off Viti Levu, is world-renowned as the ancestral birthplace of Fijian firewalking (*vilavilairevo*). High in the island's forested volcanic interior lie the overgrown stone ruins of an abandoned pre-colonial village. Shrouded in dark sorcery folklore, the site is said to have been cursed by a vengeful shaman (*bete*), resulting in ghost sightings, phantom firelight, and a strict spiritual ban (*tabu*).
Standing as a colossal brick ruin on the northwestern outskirts of Bucharest near the Dâmbovița River, Chiajna Monastery (Mănăstirea Chiajna) is widely reputed as one of Romania's most heavily cursed and haunted religious sites. Construction began in the late eighteenth century under Wallachian Prince Alexander Ypsilanti, but the grand monastery was never officially consecrated. Ravaged by bubonic plague before completion, shelled by Ottoman artillery during military conflicts, and stripped of its sacred bell which was cast into the nearby river, the roofless masonry structure has inspired chilling legends of vanished visitors, unsolved murders, and ghostly bell chimes emanating from the river waters.
Ko Hin Ngam ('Island of Beautiful Stones') is a tiny, uninhabited island in the Adang-Rawi Archipelago within Tarutao National Park, Satun Province. Celebrated globally for its unique beach composed entirely of slick, pitch-black polished volcanic pebbles, the island is equally famous for a powerful ancient curse laid by the guardian deity Chao Pho Tarutao: anyone who removes even a single stone will be haunted by misfortune until the stone is returned.
