Boggo Road Gaol
Boggo Road Gaol (H.M. Prison Brisbane), located in Dutton Park, Brisbane, was Queensland's main penal institution from 1883 until its closure in 1992. Notorious for harsh living conditions, solitary confinement, inmate riots, and 42 legal executions, the surviving heritage-listed No. 2 Division building is considered one of Australia's most formidable and intensely haunted historical gaols. Visitors and former prison officers report frequent encounters with spectral inmates, phantom footsteps, cell doors slamming shut, and the menacing spirit of executed murderer Ernest Austin.
