    Lalbagh Fort

    DhakaBangladesh1678

Lalbagh Fort, also known as Fort Aurangabad, is an incomplete 17th-century Mughal fortress complex along the Buriganga River in Old Dhaka. Construction was initiated in 1678 by Subahdar Prince Muhammad Azam Shah, son of Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb. The death of his beloved sister-in-law, Iran Dukht (famously known as Pari Bibi or the Fair Lady), cast a shadow over the fortress, leading to its sudden abandonment. Local legends tell of Pari Bibi’s restless spirit wandering the marble tomb complex, mysterious horseback phantom sentries patrolling the parapets at dusk, and lost British colonial soldiers who vanished inside the sprawling subterranean tunnels.
