Moorish Castle
Dominating the northern slopes of the Rock of Gibraltar, the Moorish Castle is a medieval fortress complex dating back to the Marinid dynasty of the 14th century (with roots in Tarik ibn-Ziyad's initial 8th-century landing). Its iconic Tower of Homage bears battle scars from centuries of bloody sieges between Moorish, Spanish, and British forces. Having also housed Gibraltar's prison until 2010, this ancient stronghold is shrouded in stories of phantom guards, imprisoned spectres, and unexplained moans.
