Old Court House Ruins at Crocus Hill
Perched at the highest elevation on Anguilla—213 feet above sea level at Crocus Hill—the Old Court House Ruins offer panoramic views across Crocus Bay and the surrounding Caribbean Sea. Constructed in the 18th century, this commanding stone structure served as the colonial seat of government, court of law, and island jail during some of the most turbulent periods in Anguillan history. Having endured French military bombardments, destructive category-five hurricanes, and eventual abandonment, the roofless stone walls stand today as a stark monument to the past. Local islanders widely consider Crocus Hill to be heavily haunted by the spirits of colonial soldiers, convicted prisoners, and fallen defenders whose shouts and phantom footsteps are said to echo along the wind-swept ridge after nightfall.
