Ipswich General Cemetery
Ipswich General Cemetery is one of Queensland's oldest pioneer burial grounds, dating back to the 1840s prior to the official separation of Queensland from New South Wales. Located directly opposite the site of a former mental asylum, this historic graveyard holds thousands of early pioneers, convicts, bushrangers, and notable regional figures. The cemetery is celebrated across Australian dark tourism circles for its dark history, eerie pioneer atmosphere, and long-running urban legends, including the famous 'Boy Made of Stone' monument, ghost sightings near the wall of the old saloon, and spectral figures wandering among weathered sandstone headstones.
