    Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum

    WestonUnited States1858–1994

Located in Weston, West Virginia, the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum is a massive 19th-century psychiatric hospital renowned as the second largest hand-cut stone masonry building in the world (after the Kremlin). Constructed according to the Kirkbride Plan, the facility suffered decades of severe overcrowding, inhumane conditions, and primitive psychiatric procedures before closing in 1994, leaving behind a famous legacy of intense ghost hauntings.
