Russian Compound Old Hospital
The Russian Compound in central Jerusalem is an historic 68,000-square-meter stone enclave built by Russia in 1860 for Orthodox travelers. Anchored by Holy Trinity Cathedral, the area included a large hospital, hostels, and courts. Under British rule and later wars, the site became a police base and prison. These events created local ghost tales of phantom nurses, chants, and spirits in dark lower cells.
