Al Jassasiya Petroglyphs
Al Jassasiya is Qatar's most extensive rock art site, featuring nearly 900 prehistoric petroglyphs carved into low limestone ridges along the northeastern coast. First discovered in 1961, the carvings include mysterious cup-marks, rosette arrangements, dhow ships with oars, and geometric patterns. Local Bedouin folklore considers the ridge a sacred domain inhabited by ancient desert spirits.
