Palace of the Governor-General
The Palace of the Governor-General along the Blue Nile in Khartoum stands on the exact site of the historic 1885 siege and death of General Charles George Gordon. Built atop the original Egyptian fort foundations, this grand nineteenth-century palace is famous for tales of Gordon's specter descending the grand staircase, phantom brass music echoing through corridors, and lingering shadows from the Mahdist War.
