Termas de Água do Radium (Radium Water Spa), officially known as Hotel Serra da Pena, is a creepy abandoned granite spa hotel complex situated in the remote mountains of Serra da Pena near the historic village of Sortelha in Sabugal, Portugal. Established in the early 1900s following Marie Curie's discovery of radium, the spa bottled and sold natural radioactive spring water, advertising it as a miracle cure for rheumatism, skin ailments, and vitality. Wealthy European elites flocked to the hotel to bathe in radioactive water until the lethal reality of radiation poisoning became known in the mid-20th century. Abandoned for decades, the crumbling stone complex is world-famous as a haunted hotspot, plagued by phantom patients wandering the stone arches, ghostly weeping, and disturbing energy anomalies.
