    Mukesh Mills Compound

    MumbaiIndia1870s–1982

Mukesh Mills is a sprawling 10-acre abandoned textile mill compound situated directly on the Arabian Sea waterfront in Colaba, South Mumbai. Established in the 1870s during British colonial rule, the thriving mill was gutted by a mysterious, catastrophic fire in 1982 during the Great Bombay Textile Strike and never rebuilt. Today, its soot-blackened chimney, roofless brick corridors, and overgrown ruins serve as a famous Bollywood shooting location and Mumbai's premier urban ghost site.

    Hashima Island (Gunkanjima)

    NagasakiJapan1887–1974

Hashima Island, commonly known as Gunkanjima ('Battleship Island') due to its distinct armored warship silhouette, is an abandoned offshore coal-mining island city located 15 kilometers from Nagasaki. Purchased by Mitsubishi in 1890, the tiny 6.3-hectare island became the most densely populated place on Earth, packing over 5,300 residents into reinforced concrete apartment blocks. Abandoned overnight in 1974 when coal mines closed, Gunkanjima stands today as a haunting World Heritage ruin.
