Pan Paper Mill in Webuye was once East Africa's largest paper manufacturing plant. Opened in 1974 along the Nzoia River near Webuye Falls, the huge factory was the economic heart of Bungoma County. After its sudden closure in 2009, the rusting iron tanks and silent boiler rooms became steeped in tales of workplace accidents, river pollution, and local Bukusu legends of restless factory specters.
