Dante Salt Works / Hafun Ruins
The Dante Salt Works Ruins at Hafun represent the remains of what was once the largest salt extraction facility in the world during the 1930s. Located on the easternmost tip of the African continent on the Hafun Peninsula, this massive Italian industrial complex spanned miles of concrete evaporation basins, ropeway transport towers, and power stations. Abandoned during World War II after British bombing raids, the sun-bleached, salt-crusted concrete ruins foster an eerie atmosphere where workers' ghosts and phantom machinery noises linger.
