Inya Lake & Inya Lake Hotel
Inya Lake is the largest body of water in Yangon, originally constructed by British colonial engineers in 1882 as a primary reservoir known as Lake Victoria. Ringed by lush leafy parks, grand colonial villas, and the famous modernist Soviet-designed Inya Lake Hotel, the lake is celebrated as a peaceful recreational haven and romantic lovers' retreat. However, behind its serene waters lies a dark legacy of tragic drownings, political turmoil, wartime drownings, and long-standing rumors of aquatic spirits and ghost sightings.
