    Kapetanovo Castle

    Stari LecSerbia1904

Kapetanovo Castle (Dvorac Kapetanovo) is a striking Neo-Gothic manor house located near the village of Stari Lec in the Banat plains of northern Serbia. Built in 1904 by Botka Béla, a wealthy Hungarian nobleman, the castle features tall crenellated towers, pointed arches, and decorative step gables reminiscent of medieval English castles. Following Botka's bankruptcy in 1938, his wife Emma committed suicide by climbing the castle tower and setting herself on fire. According to local folklore, her tragic death gave rise to a chilling legend: every St. George's Day, the phantom silhouette of a blond woman appears on the castle tower, accompanied by mysterious mechanical failures.

    Špizer Castle (Beočin Manor)

    BeočinSerbia1890–1892

Špizer Castle (Dvorac Špizer), located in the town of Beočin near Novi Sad, is one of Serbia's most eerie and famous abandoned romantic mansions. Built in 1890–1892 for Ede Špizer, a wealthy German co-owner of the Beočin cement factory, the mansion was designed by renowned Hungarian architect Imre Steindl in an eclectic blend of Eclecticism and Secession styles. Once featuring stained glass, Zsolnay ceramics, and lush English gardens, the mansion fell into severe neglect after WWII. Today, its crumbling roof, hollow window sockets, and vandalized interior have created a prime destination for urban explorers and dark tourism, giving rise to chilling ghost stories.
