Fortaleza de São Miguel
Fortaleza de São Miguel is a massive 16th-century Portuguese fortress overlooking the Bay of Luanda. Built in 1576 by Paulo Dias de Novais, the citadel served as the administrative and military heart of Portuguese colonial rule, a garrison against Dutch invasions, and a staging stronghold during the transatlantic slave trade. Today, housing the Museum of the Armed Forces, the fortress is famous for ghost sightings, phantom footsteps in subterranean dungeons, and spectral sentries along the stone ramparts.
