Ksar Ghilane Roman Fort, historically known as Tisavar, is a remote square sandstone fortress standing amidst the towering orange sand dunes of the Grand Erg Oriental in the Tunisian Sahara. Built during the second century AD as a frontier outpost along the Limes Tripolitanus, this isolated fort once garrisoned Roman legionnaires tasked with monitoring desert nomadic tribes. Bedouin nomads and desert travelers speak of phantom legionnaire patrols marching across shifting sand dunes, ghostly firelight flickering inside ruined barracks, and strange whispers riding the nighttime Saharan winds.
