Fort Flacourt
Fort Flacourt, situated on a rocky peninsula in Tôlanaro (Fort-Dauphin) in southern Madagascar, was established in 1643 by the French East India Company as one of France's earliest colonial settlements in the Indian Ocean. Plagued by deadly tropical fevers, starvation, and fierce battles with the indigenous Antanosy people, the fort was eventually destroyed and abandoned, leaving behind stone ruins haunted by ghost soldiers and restless early settlers.
