The Convent
The Convent has served as the official residence of the Governor of Gibraltar since 1728. Originally established in 1531 as a monastery for Franciscan friars, this historic complex on Main Street is widely famous for its ghostly spectres, most notably the 'Lady in Grey'. Local tradition identifies her as Alida, a young Spanish novice who was forcibly cloistered by her noble family to prevent her marriage to a Protestant British officer. Her tragic death during an attempted escape left a ghost that continues to wander the residence corridors.
