    Ostrog Monastery

    DanilovgradMontenegro1665

Ostrog Monastery, carved into a sheer vertical cliff face high above the Zeta River valley, is Montenegro's most sacred Orthodox pilgrimage site and one of the Balkans' most mystically renowned locations. Founded in 1665 by Saint Basil of Ostrog (Sveti Vasilije), the upper monastery complex houses his uncorrupted relics, which believers claim possess miraculous healing powers and produce unexplainable divine phenomena. Beyond devout religious reverence, centuries of local tradition recount mystical apparitions, glowing light phenomena appearing over the mountain cliffs, incorporeal voices reciting prayers at midnight, and miraculous protections during wartime bombardments.

    Reževići Monastery

    Katun ReževićiMontenegro1220s–1351

Reževići Monastery (Manastir Reževići), perched on a scenic coastal plateau overlooking the Adriatic Sea between Budva and Petrovac, is one of coastal Montenegro's most ancient and revered spiritual sanctuaries. Founded in the 1220s by King Stefan Nemanjić and expanded in 1351 by Emperor Stefan Dušan, the monastery complex served for centuries as the spiritual, judicial, and cultural heart of the autonomous Paštrovići clan. Repeatedly sacked and burned by Ottoman raiders and French Napoleonic forces, the monastery has survived centuries of destruction. Local tradition speaks of unexplainable divine lights, phantom choir voices echoing from empty stone chapels, and protective guardian spirits watching over ancient clan tombs.
