    Buzludzha Monument

    KazanlakBulgaria1981

Perched atop the windswept Buzludzha Peak at an elevation of 1,441 metres in the Central Balkan Mountains, the Monument House of the Bulgarian Communist Party stands as one of the world's most dramatic abandoned structures. Opened in 1981 to commemorate the founding of the Bulgarian social democratic movement, the saucer-shaped brutalist concrete amphitheatre and its 70-metre tower fell into complete neglect following the fall of the communist regime in 1989. Decades of vandalism, harsh mountain weather, and dark historical associations have given this futuristic ruin a chilling, ghost-like aura.

Source of the Nile at Rutovu

    RutovuBurundi1937 discovery

Located on Mount Gikizi in Bururi Province, the Rutovu Nile source was identified in 1937 by German explorer Dr. Burkhart Waldecker as the southernmost headstream of the Nile River system. Marked by a historic stone pyramid, the windy mountain peak is surrounded by local stories of mountain spirits, geographic discovery, and ghostly sightings.
