    Huguang Guild Hall

    The Huguang Guild Hall (Huguang Huiguan) in Beijing's Xicheng District is a celebrated 19th-century cultural complex originally established as a residence and gathering hub for scholars and travelers from Hunan and Hubei provinces. Built over an ancient burial ground, the guild hall features an exquisite wooden Peking Opera theater that hosted legendary performers like Mei Lanfang, as well as historic meetings led by Dr. Sun Yat-sen. However, local folklore remembers it for phantom scoldings, disembodied footsteps behind the stage, and stone-throwing ghosts.
