Gettysburg National Cemetery
Gettysburg National Cemetery, originally established in 1863 as Soldiers' National Cemetery, is a 17-acre sacred burial ground situated on Cemetery Hill within Gettysburg National Military Park. Created in the immediate aftermath of the Battle of Gettysburg to provide honorable burial for over 3,500 Union soldiers who perished in the battle, the cemetery is world-famous as the site where President Abraham Lincoln delivered his historic Gettysburg Address on November 19, 1863.
