    Devil's Throat Cave

    GyovrenBulgariaPrehistoric

Devil's Throat Cave (Dyavolskoto Garlo) is a terrifying natural karst cavern located within the sheer vertical marble walls of Trigrad Gorge in the Western Rhodope Mountains of Bulgaria. Known since antiquity as an entrance to the Underworld, the cave features an enormous subterranean waterfall that plunges 42 metres into a roaring cavern known as the Hall of Thunder. The site is legendary for its refusal to yield anything swept into its underground river: logs, boats, and dyes vanished without a trace, and two professional Bulgarian cave divers lost their lives in 1970 trying to explore its mysterious underwater sumps.

    Prohodna Cave

    KarlukovoBulgariaPrehistoric

Prohodna Cave, famous throughout Europe for its two massive almond-shaped ceiling openings known as 'The Eyes of God' (Oknata), is a natural karst cave passage located in the Karlukovo Gorge of northern Bulgaria. Inhabited by humans since the Neolithic and Chalcolithic eras, this awe-inspiring 262-metre-long natural cavern has served as an ancient Thracian ritual sanctuary. When rain falls through the ceiling openings, water trickles down the limestone face like tears, giving rise to mystical legends of divine grief and ancient pagan spirits.
