The USS Yorktown
The USS Yorktown (CV-10) is a famous Essex-class aircraft carrier anchored at Patriots Point in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. Commissioned in 1943 during World War II, the 'Fighting Lady' earned 11 battle stars in the Pacific Theater and later served in the Vietnam War before recovering the Apollo 8 astronauts. Over 140 sailors lost their lives aboard the vessel during wartime service. Today, the ship is widely considered one of the most intensely haunted naval vessels in the world, famous for reports of full-body apparitions, shadow figures in the engine room, disembodied footsteps on the flight deck, and strange metallic voices in the berthing compartments.
