Pul-e-Charkhi Prison
Pul-e-Charkhi Prison, located in the eastern outskirts of Kabul, is Afghanistan's largest maximum-security detention complex and one of the most infamous execution sites in Central Asia. Constructed in the 1970s under President Mohammed Daoud Khan, the vast circular prison complex became a horrific center for mass torture, forced disappearances, and extrajudicial executions during the Soviet-backed communist regimes of Nur Muhammad Taraki and Hafizullah Amin. Tens of thousands of political dissidents, intellectuals, religious leaders, and political prisoners were executed within Block 1 and Block 2 or buried in surrounding mass graves. Former inmates, guards, and local residents report profound paranormal disturbances across the prison grounds, including haunting screams echoing through subterranean corridors at night, shadowy figures wandering empty cell blocks, unexplainable cold spots, and heavy feelings of oppression.
