Akagera National Park
Akagera National Park, situated along Rwanda's eastern border with Tanzania, is Central Africa's largest protected wetland and Rwanda's only savannah wildlife reserve. Spanning over 1,100 square kilometers of rolling hills, acacia woodlands, and papyrus swamps, the park is home to the Big Five. Beyond its conservation success, Akagera possesses a deep history interwoven with ancient royal grazing traditions, tragic border conflicts, and long-standing pastoral legends of ghost lions and phantom herdsmen.
