House on the Embankment
The House on the Embankment in central Moscow is a monumental Soviet apartment complex built opposite the Kremlin during Joseph Stalin's industrialization drive. Home to top Communist party officials, military commanders, and Old Bolsheviks, the building became a major locus of terror during the Great Purges of 1937–1938, when over 800 residents were arrested and executed. Residents report ghostly apparitions, phantom footsteps, and chilling whispers throughout its cavernous gray hallways.
