    Bujagali Falls

    JinjaUgandaPre-18th Century

Bujagali Falls near Jinja was a series of thundering white-water rapids along the Victoria Nile, revered as the home of Budhagali, a paramount spirit of the Busoga kingdom. Submerged in 2011 by the construction of the Bujagali Hydropower Dam, the lost waterfall remains a potent site of spiritual controversy. Locals report that the ancient river spirit still haunts the dammed waters, manifesting through whirlpools, phantom drums, and nocturnal sightings.
