Villa Algarve
Villa Algarve is an infamous Portuguese colonial mansion in Maputo that served as the local headquarters and interrogation center for the PIDE secret police during the Mozambican War of Independence. Constructed in 1934 with ornate Portuguese azulejo tiles, the house became a site of systematic torture and execution of anti-colonial freedom fighters. Today, the decaying structure is feared by locals who report disembodied screams, chilling cold spots, and phantom figures wandering its darkened corridors.
