Observation Point Rock
Observation Point Rock, commonly known as OP Rock, is a desolate desert hill in Helmand Province, Afghanistan, that gained international notoriety as one of the most intensely haunted military positions in modern warfare. Rising abruptly above the flat alluvial plains of the Nawa region, this natural clay mound and ancient burial site served as a strategic watchtower for Soviet troops, Taliban insurgents, British Royal Marines, and United States Marines. Troops stationed at the base consistently experienced terrifying paranormal encounters, including unexplained radio static, disembodied voices, whispering in extinct regional dialects, ghostly apparitions of Soviet soldiers, sudden sub-zero temperature drops, and overwhelming feelings of claustrophobic dread. Marine accounts described mysterious lights floating across the perimeter and thermal imaging cameras tracking human-shaped heat signatures that vanished into solid dirt mounds, leading soldiers to believe the ancient mound is cursed by centuries of violent conflict.
