    Overlooking the confluence of the Vjosa and Drino rivers, Tepelenë Castle was the personal palace stronghold and birthplace of Ali Pasha of Tepelena. Known across 19th-century Europe as the 'Lion of Yanina', Ali Pasha's formidable fortress saw numerous executions and torture. Local lore claims his restless ghost and the spirits of his victims still haunt the ruined bastions and subterranean vaults.
