Church of Nossa Senhora da Conceição da Muxima
The Church of Nossa Senhora da Conceição da Muxima, situated on the banks of the Kwanza River in Bengo Province, is Angola's most venerated Marian shrine and one of its oldest colonial structures. Built in 1599 alongside a Portuguese fortress, Muxima played a key role in European expansion, local resistance wars, and the slave trade. The shrine is famous for reports of miraculous apparitions, disembodied choir singing, and spectral night processions.
