    Blowing Point Fort Hill Ruins

    Blowing PointAnguilla18th century (1745 / 1796 skirmishes)

Overlooking the turbulent waters of the Anguilla Channel toward the high peaks of neighboring Saint Martin, the Fort Hill Ruins at Blowing Point mark one of the island's most critical 18th-century military lookout posts. Built to guard Anguilla's vulnerable southern coast against privateers, naval raiding parties, and foreign invaders, this stone battery was the scene of fierce artillery duels during the French invasions of 1745 and 1796. Though reduced over time to low coral-stone foundations and weathered earthworks, Fort Hill remains deeply embedded in local military lore. Fishermen and coastal residents frequently describe seeing phantom sentries pacing the ridge at dusk, hearing the distant boom of spectral cannon fire across the channel, and witnessing green jumbie lights flickering along the sea cliffs.
