    Villa Epecuén

    Adolfo AlsinaArgentina1921

Villa Epecuén is an eerie ghost town located on the shores of Lake Epecuén in southwestern Buenos Aires Province. Established in 1921 as a thriving lake resort famous for highly therapeutic saline waters comparable to the Dead Sea, the town hosted up to 25,000 tourists each season across 300 businesses and luxury hotels. On November 10, 1985, a catastrophic breach of the earthen dam wall inundated the entire city under ten meters of saltwater. Submerged for over twenty years before the waters receded in the 2000s, Epecuén reemerged as an apocalyptic graveyard of petrified white trees, calcified ruins, and ghostly solitude.
