Lockenhaus Castle
Nestled in the forested Günser Mountains of Burgenland near the Hungarian border, Lockenhaus Castle (Burg Lockenhaus) is an atmospheric medieval fortress dating back to 1200. Renowned for its subterranean Cult Hall believed to have been built by the Knights Templar, the castle is equally famous for its dark association with Countess Elizabeth Báthory—the infamous 'Blood Countess'. Visitors report phantom footsteps in the subterranean vaults, strange red illuminations, and sightings of a veiled woman in black.
