Moosham Castle
Perched dramatically in the Lungau region of Salzburg, Moosham Castle—often referred to as 'Witches Castle'—holds a dark legacy as the site of the infamous Zaubererjackl witch trials. Between 1675 and 1690, hundreds of individuals accused of sorcery, witchcraft, and werewolfism were imprisoned, tortured, and executed within its thick stone walls. Visitors today report intense cold spots, disembodied screams, phantom footsteps, and a sinister atmosphere that lingers throughout the dungeon and execution chambers.
