Chirag Gala
Chirag Gala, meaning 'Lamp Castle' in Azerbaijani, is a dramatic 5th-century Sasanian mountain fortress perched on a cliff peak in the Shabran District. Built by King Kavad I as a vital signaling post along the Gilgilchay defence wall, this ruined stone citadel once warned ancient cities of nomadic invasions. Perched high above dense Guba forests, the mountain fortress is haunted by tales of slaughtered sentinels, phantom signal fires, and disembodied cries echoing across the mountain cliffs.
