Gelersen-Gorersen Fortress
Gelersen-Gorersen Fortress, meaning 'Come and See' in Azerbaijani, is a formidable 15th-century mountain stronghold perched on a steep cliff above the Kish River near Shaki. Named for the defiant response given by Shaki Khan Haji Chalabi to the Persian conqueror Nadir Shah in 1743, the impenetrable citadel withstood repeated heavy sieges. Hidden within dense mountain forests, the ruined fortress is haunted by tales of slaughtered Persian besiegers, phantom warning drums, and disembodied footsteps along its overgrown ramparts.
