Lamanai
Nestled on the shores of the expansive New River Lagoon, Lamanai is one of Belize's largest and most continuously occupied ancient Maya capitals. Known for its towering High Temple, colossal carved Mask Temple, and ruined 16th-century Spanish mission churches, Lamanai is steeped in dark legends of crocodile spirits, Spanish colonial conflicts, and phantom howls. The site remains an essential, hauntingly preserved landmark of historic memory, Central American folklore, and paranormal research in Belize.
