Jajce Citadel & Underground Catacombs

Perched on an egg-shaped hill high above the dramatic 22-meter Pliva Waterfall where the Pliva River plunges into the Vrbas, the walled city of Jajce was the final royal capital of the independent Kingdom of Bosnia. Founded in the late 14th century by Grand Duke Hrvoje Vukčić Hrvatinić, Jajce features an imposing stone citadel and a subterranean underground catacomb church carved deep into the living rock. Known as the site where Bosnia's last king, Stjepan Tomašević, was crowned and later executed by Ottoman forces in 1463, Jajce is steeped in royal ghost lore and subterranean mysteries.
